How is it possible that my follower count has exceeded 200, but my view and visitor count is way below that? Do people follow, then fall off the face of the earth? Where are you, my faithful ones? Do I need to leave a trail of breadcrumbs to help you find your way back here? I know you’re out there somewhere.
Well, wherever you are, I hope you have a joyous holiday and happy new year. Feel free to return in 2017.Β It’s an open house. All visitors are welcome. Think of me as the Statue of Liberty.
βGive me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!β
Wretched refuse? On second, thought…
Hi! Congrats on the 200 plus followers!I I think it’s common to have a lot of followers but not as many views. It happens to me as well.

Thanks, Nomad. I guess I shouldn’t take it personally then.

No, definitely don’t take it personally. I think the way the reader on mobile devices works can affect your stats. On some devices you can ony view so many blogs at one time and if you follow a lot of blogs you may not even see some blogs on your list on your phone or reader. I think that is one of the biggest reasons that happens.

Congratulations on 200 followers! I’ve noticed the same thing; my follower count will increase, but the number of likes, comments, and general views won’t match my follower count. Everyone can’t read everything I suppose.
Anyway, I’ve just stumbled across this post – do I count as a visitor? π
Feel free to “visit” my blog too: https://readandreview2016.wordpress.com/ π

I don’t know how WordPress calculates these statistics, and I also can’t find anything that explains the difference between viewers and visitors. Personally, the comments mean the most to me because I am inspired by the interaction. Thank you for commenting!

Your posts are sent to me via email, I assume someone has to click on the comment section to view your post and be counted. I usually do even if I don’t comment. Sometimes I am too tired or busy to respond, and then I do not get back to it. I also wonder if I am counted again each time I post a comment and check notify me of new posts via email.

Hi Ro, your comments are much more valuable to me than any viewing statistics, so no complaints from me on your actions. I am thrilled that you are my most loyal follower and that I can share my thoughts with you in this way.

There are so many social media options out there now, it’s tough for people to divvy up their time among them. So don’t take it personally. The same happens to all of us!

I’ll echo all the comments above, I never have as many visitors as followers π

Thanks, Andrea. That seems to be the norm, based on other comments. I don’t feel so bad now.

I think of it like having a hundred friends – yet only 1 or 2 visit in a day…

I love your blog! I get your posts via email and read them there, but I guess we have to actually click into the entry to count as a visitor? I’m really bad about catching up on reading in the actual blog itself and clicking “like.” I tend to catch up in one fell swoop. I need to do better about that.

Wendy, thank you ever so much for your comment and inspiring feedback. I am happy to learn that the visitor statistics may not tell the whole story and, therefore, maybe I have drawn more interest than I realized. In any case, I welcome you as a visitor through any means you choose. I love your blog as well. We seem to have the same sense of humor.π

I think it’s quite normal. I know as a reader, I wax and wane in terms of my engagement; some days, I love to browse the blogs I follow, while much of the time, life just gets in the way. I think many people also follow different types of blogs that interest them at different times–so sometimes, I want to check out the disability blogs I follow, while other days I want to follow the creative writing blogs, and such. Even so, 200 is an accomplishment! Congrats!
