There I was at my brother’s birthday party – another year gone by and we’re all showing our age. He’s a grandfather now, and watching his effervescent, blonde, blue-eyed granddaughter fill the room with her light and energy, I reminisced about the years when her father was running around the same room. Yet I don’t really feel old. Life is just beginning for me and it has felt this way with every new job, new hobby, new hairstyle and new season. I have always yearned for fresh beginnings and find them somehow – or they find me because I need that. Then one of the guests raised her hand in a toast.

But it was not a toast to my brother in honor of his birthday. It was a toast for me: “To Gail, who never stops reinventing herself – and is successful every time.”

Thank you, C!
